Yoko Ono Presents Peace Grant to Pussy Riot

Artist Yoko Ono presents the Lennon Ono Grant for Peace to Pyotr Verzilov and 4-year old Gera, husband and daughter of Nadia Tolokonnikova, one of the three imprisoned Pussy Riot members in New York. Pussy Riot is one the recipients of the 2012 Lennon Ono Grant For Peace, that also includes Lady Gaga and the late Christopher Hitchens. The awards will be given in Reykjavik, Iceland on Oct 9th 2012 - the birthday of John Lennon.

Since the 1990s, Jeffrey Gibson has been weaving his own Native traditions and queer history with pop cultural references—particularly song titles, into kaleidoscopic textile works, paintings, videos, and performances. A member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and of Cherokee descent, he is the first Indigenous artist to represent the United States with a solo presentation at the Venice Biennale. His exhibition at the US Pavilion, the space in which to place me, takes its title from Oglala Lakota poet Layli Long Soldier’s poem e Sápa. Gaetano Pesce (1939–2024) “The time of copies is behind us.
