Yesterday, before the Met Gala, we got a special preview of the @metmuseum Costume Institute’s Spring 2024 exhibition ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.’ This is what all the pomp and circumstance is all about. A true multi-sensorial and emotional feast of sight, sound, smell and sound. X-rays, molecular olfactory extraction, artificial intelligence, soundscapes, video projection and 3D modeling bring masterworks from the collection’s archives to life in an historic way - what curator Andrew Bolton says is the future of museum exhibitions the Met. The exhibition allowed viewers to smell the wearer, hear the wearer and even travel back in time to ask the wearer what life was like in the 1930s. If you’re wondering, Why the Met Gala? Last night on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan with artist Sandra Mujinga and friends. Autre celebrated its Spring/Summer 2024 ‘Levity’ issue with a very small and intimate soirée in the private dining bar of Fasano directly facing Central Park. This incredible image of the Earth rise was taken during lunar orbit by the Apollo 11 mission crew in July of 1969. The first manned lunar mission, Apollo 11 launched aboard a Saturn V launch vehicle from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida on July 16, 1969 and safely returned to Earth on July 24, 1969. The 3-man crew aboard the flight consisted of Neil A. Armstrong, commander; Michael Collins, Command Module pilot; and Edwin E. Since the 1990s, Jeffrey Gibson has been weaving his own Native traditions and queer history with pop cultural references—particularly song titles, into kaleidoscopic textile works, paintings, videos, and performances. A member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and of Cherokee descent, he is the first Indigenous artist to represent the United States with a solo presentation at the Venice Biennale. His exhibition at the US Pavilion, the space in which to place me, takes its title from Oglala Lakota poet Layli Long Soldier’s poem e Sápa. Gaetano Pesce (1939–2024) “The time of copies is behind us. We are in a time of originals.” Very sad to hear the news of Pesce’s passing, a legendary architect and designer with a meteoric influence on design, both in practice and theory. He was featured in our Utopia issue (SS23) alongside other giants of the Italian Radical Design movement. His work was deeply political and revolutionary—even a simple chair was an act of resistance.
