They sat alongside similar signs that offered to buy everything from homes to junk cars to cash for insulin strips. The artist behind this public project, RABI (David Emanuel Mordechai Torres), received over 40,000 recorded messages from interested sellers. As we’re all seemingly inexplicably returning to 2016, we keep thinking about the wise words of this sage mouse by @ryanjgander which was on view at @camdenarts176 and the power of nostalgia. In times of extreme upheaval, nostalgia acts as a psychological balm, an evolutionary mechanism, for survival and meaning. Ignoring the fact that meta is most likely training their machine learning technologies through the aging of our faces, zooming back to the past offers a reprieve from the violence of the present, even when that time was also marked by the same violence.
