CALLING ALL ANGELENOS: “What a Wonderful World: An Audiovisual Poem,” presented by the Berlin-based Julia Stoschek Foundation (@juliastoschekfoundation) and edited (not curated) by Udo Kittelmann, is in its final weeks—spanning early cinematic experiments and silent film to contemporary video works by artists working today from Walt Disney to Marina Abramović (@abramovicinstitute). Through March 20, 2026, experience the “Audiovisual Poem” at the Venetian-inspired Variety Arts Theater in Los Angeles—a phrase chosen by Kittelmann for its emotional immediacy — where a dream, and perhaps a little glimmer of hope, flickers within the raw remnants of this historic space. 🎟️ UPCOMING PUBLIC PROGRAMMING includes a screening this Sunday by Douglas Gordon (@douglasgordonart) of the artist’s feature film “1999” followed by next week’s lecture led by Dean Kissick (@deankissick), accompanied by Gideon Jacobs (@gideon___jacobs) and David Rudnick (@ex_terra), entitled “The End of Images,” discussing the counterpoint—the future of images. WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD: AN AUDIOVISUAL POEM | THROUGH MARCH 20 WEDNESDAY – SUNDAY | EXPERIENCED AFTER DARK | 5 P.M UNTIL MIDNIGHT 🍸FULL BAR SERVICE (21+) | 🍿COMPLIMENTARY POPCORN + SCREENING SNACKS RSVP at WWW.JSF.LA Sunday Events require RSVP | General Admission is always free, and no ticket is required to visit. However, reserving a ticket guarantees entry and access during your selected time. #jsfla

It’s hard to ignore the crushing weight of the world’s violent instability—and the soft powers we are endlessly entangled in—while wading through the feverishly panting crowd of an art fair. Mega art-world events like Frieze, which reverberate across a region for a few days or a week before receding to a low tide against the shore, offer the mirage of a city’s comeback or resurgence. The next fair, the next fashion week, the next sporting event moves restlessly across the globe in a constant race for fresh attention. Cities have become backlots for cultural production, the last bastion of unregulated, tax-discounted corporate ambition dressed up as institutional support. Nothing is sacred; there are no sides; nothing is definitively won or lost. It’s not lost on us that we play the game as the game plays us. As F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote, “We beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.” We chase history’s obliterating high while the present flattens into a shapeshifting now and the future burns along the horizon. And yet, amid all of this, artists continue to work—to labor in studios, to produce and produce again. Art matters because of the artists and the ideas they offer about this strange new world. Those ideas can be alchemical, brilliantly unreasonable, sometimes even revolutionary. It makes little rational sense why art seduces us so completely, but it does. The imagination of artists remains endlessly compelling. Here are some highlights from Frieze Los Angeles. #friezela #friezela2026
