Jeanloup Sieff’s Photographic Formations

"The French photographer Jeanloup Sieff (1933–2000) began photographing in the 1950s. He worked in the tradition of French humanist photography and photographers such as Edouard Boubat, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Doisneau. His early reportages have a romantic, nostalgic air, with lovers, cafes, smoke-filled jazz clubs and other familiar Paris milieus. He was commissioned by the fashion magazine Elle for portraits and short articles, and in 1958 joined the prestigious Magnum photo agency, before going back to freelance work the following year. One of his favorite subjects was portraits of French cinema and “la nouvelle vague” personalities, including Jean-Claude Brialy, François Truffaut and Jean Seberg." A new exhibit exploring his Sieff's work entitled Jeanloup Sieff's Photographic Formations will be opening on Feb. 19 at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm. Legendary actor Udo Kier has passed away at the age of 81. Born in the ruins of World War II, he escaped a world of violence to become a muse to Warhol and countless artists and directors. With his thick German accent, he had a chameleonic presence on the silver screen that was magnetic and transfixing. We were lucky to spend an afternoon with Kier for Autre’s second issue at his home and pool in Palm Springs on a 115 degree day. Midnight, the stars, and you ✨ Last night, at the expansive new @laeyeworks campus in Los Angeles, Autre Magazine invited guests on a journey through space and time to celebrate its FW25 “Work in Progress” issue. The evening opened with a captivating panel featuring @caltechedu astrophysicists Katherine de Kleer, Cameron Hummels, and Mike Brown, moderated by Autre’s managing editor @summer.bowie , who guided a conversation spanning black holes, dark matter, and the possibility of life beyond Earth. First stop off the plane from Paris for an up close and personal peek at Dario Vitale’s brilliant and romantic debut collection for @versace at @justoneeye in Los Angeles . A brilliant collection of high and low materiality—from silk to denim. Bold colors and fusion of 1980s high glam with a tinge of 1920s Italian modernism and lots of sex appeal. Unbuttoned flies and open slips with a selection of prints from Gianni’s early 90s collections—including his iconic Miami collection. And of course lots of Medusa insignia who was raped and murdered for her beauty and turned into a monster.
