Burgess found herself having to rethink her career path at 28, a time when she was also facing the realities of motherhood and the breakup of her band, Woman’s Hour. Fortunately, her natural flare as a director, which she exercised when shooting her own music videos, determined her career segue into film direction. Since delving into the film industry, Burgess has worked on diverse campaigns that span music videos, personal projects, working with the UK’s No.1 Baby Feeding brand, Tommee Tippee and some of fashion’s most recognised names, including Gucci and Burberry. The story of the creation of Jayde Fish and the imaginative phrases of Coco Capitán give way to a series of unpublished walls, created by two artists, capable of involving the visitor and talking to the windows that open onto Piazza della Signoria, establishing a contact between the Gucci Garden transit spaces and the teeming space of the square. photographs by Oliver Maxwell Kupper

Oh, Italy. The land of luxury behemoths. Young fashion people scoff at Milan, but Milan is planting itself once more at the forefront of conceptual fashion. Versace and Prada will always be doing their thing. Damir Doma decided to leave the herd of Paris and create his architectural garments in Italy. Arthur Arbesser is injecting youth and idea-driven fashion into the city revitalizing Iceberg and launching his own brand. And, less we forget, Alessandro Michele is the hottest designer in fashion at Gucci. It feels like people are ready for Italian fashion again, and they certainly want Gucci to be relevant again. We’ve had so many years of “cool” and “arty” brands out of Paris and London that maybe the coolest thing to do right now is to pay heed to the luxury giants of Italy. At DSMNY’s Fashion Week Open House on Thursday, the store introduced some amazing installations: a ground floor installation designed by exciting new Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele introduces Gucci’s Cruise 2016 collection, longtime Raf Simons collaborator and photographer Willy Vanderperre was hanging out signing copies of his new IDEA book ‘636,’ London heritage label Labour and Wait launched its first US shop within the walls of DSMNY, designer Jeanne Signoles was in store celebrating the US launch of her luxe-meets-function bag brand L/Uniform, and John Galliano’s first collection for Maison Margiela was commemorated with a visual installation calling back to Martin Margiela’s famous experiments with paint. All of these installations and appearances were fantastic; Rei Kawakubo accepts no less. But it was particularly heart-warming to see one of my favorite artists (and full disclosure, good friend) JK5, aka Joseph Ari Aloi, giving birth to his installation on DSMNY’s 5th floor. Very sad to learn of the passing of the legendary Barbara “Bobbie” Stauffacher Solomon who AUTRE featured in the SS23 Utopia issue. She was 95. Her legendary supergraphics are on view now at the @sfmoma for all to see. Bobbie studied graphic design in Switzerland under the legendary Armin Hofmann in the late 1950s. Her most famous project, the graphic identity for Sea Ranch, a planned community imagined by architects Al Boeke and Lawrence Halprin on the Sonoma Coast, was a blend of Swiss Style and California Modernism, an amalgam of irreverent hippie cool and clean straight lines in oversized texts and symbols called ‘supergraphics.’ #barbarastauffachersolomon #supergraphics #searanch

Yesterday, before the Met Gala, we got a special preview of the @metmuseum Costume Institute’s Spring 2024 exhibition ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.’ This is what all the pomp and circumstance is all about. A true multi-sensorial and emotional feast of sight, sound, smell and sound. X-rays, molecular olfactory extraction, artificial intelligence, soundscapes, video projection and 3D modeling bring masterworks from the collection’s archives to life in an historic way - what curator Andrew Bolton says is the future of museum exhibitions the Met.
