Taste It

London based Daniel Brereton has directed the brilliant new music video for Daniel Avery's track Taste It off his EP Need Electric. Brereton says, "I don't want reveal how this is done before you watch it, so watch it first. It might be easy to tell but this was all done an an everyday scanner, I just had the idea to do a video full of scanned images. So i just got the girls to move scan by scan, like in stop-frame animation. They didn't really "get" what was going on at times, but that is cool as it creates mistakes, and i often asked them what they thought would look good."

Kisses Return with Funny Heartbeats

After two years of touring the world and recording, Kisses, comprised of couple Jesse Kivel and Zinzi Edmundson, have unveiled their latest single. Funny Heartbeat, a track about love and high anxiety that calls attention to the end of Summer and a new chapter for Kisses. While putting the finishing touches on the duo's second LP, with production work from Saint Etienne's Pete Wiggs and Tim Larcombe, the group decided to release a song that sits between the disco sheen of The Heart of The Nightlife and the pulsing freestyle beats of their forthcoming LP.

Patric Fallon is Courtship

I was intrigued at first by the hopeful sounding name of the album: Hope; and then by the title of one of the tracks: Dishwater Blonde. Courtship (a.k.a. Brooklyn resident Patric Fallon) has just released his latest EP, the seven-track Hope, as a free download. Over a year in the making, the Hope EP is the first installment of Courtship's Virtues trilogy, which will soon be followed by the Faith and Grace EPs. Hope was written by Fallon throughout San Francisco, Brooklyn, and Chicago, and is a pop-focused meditation on the ideas of hopefulness and hopelessness. The EP has a few gems like the track My View and My Friends and Patric Fallon's voice has just the right amount of angst riding over his melodious beats. Fallon is also certainly an artist to keep on your radar and if a record label gave him the right amount of time and money his music will just keep getting better. You can stream and download the Hope EP for free via  Courtship's bandcamp page.

RIP CHAVELA VARGAS

Our love to revered Mexican folk singer Chavela Vargas, pictured above kissing director Pedro Almodovar, who passed away last night in Mexico City at the age of 93. In her youth, she dressed as a man, smoked cigars, drank heavily, carried a gun and was known for her characteristic red jorongo, which she still wore in performances. She was even rumored to have once carried on a romantic relationship with artist Frida Kahlo.

Sensual Harassment "Disco Heart"

Slutever's Karley Sciortino stars in Brooklyn based Sensual Harassment's new music video for the track Disco Heart. Above is an uncensored erotic outtake featuring the track with Sciortino. The music video is a trip, following an alien, flight attendant drug dealer as she travels to Earth on a mission to feed mysterious pills to the attendees of a Brooklyn warehouse party.

TEEN "ELECTRIC"

Teen unveil the their new video for Electric from the forthcoming debut full-length, In Limbo – due out on Carpark Records on August 28. Sam Fleischner and Megha Barnabas directed the video. Fleischner said that "some ideas that nurtured this video were sisterhood, modern-day ritual, and stage magic. We were interested in the idea of forced initiation - something that would allow for entrance into another "Electric" realm. We were also seeing movement as a process or a form of communication rather than something celebratory. As Teeny, the lead singer, put it when we were first hashing out concepts, 'this is not a happy song - it is about death and people kicking you when you are down.' The video is about strength in the face of that - a combination of fuck off and flower power - having a sense of humor and playfulness when things get ugly.

[Next] Visitor

Lucas_Gianello_visitor_kyle_gibson

Aussie born, London based, electro-rock-pop duo Kyle Gibson and Lucas Gianello – otherwise known under the moniker Visitor – produce electrifying, soaring tracks that are reminiscent of the soundtrack of some 1980s teen flick or even today's M83. Visitor are set to release an EP COMING HOME // RNB on the 10th of September, and will feature a string of very exciting remixes, all to be made available in the coming weeks. And pre-orders will be available soon. If our intuition is right we'll be hearing a lot of from Visitor in the future.

Haleek Maul Releases Debut EP Oxyconteen

Haleek_Maul_rapper_oxyconteen

Haleek Maul, who is from the island of Barbados, but was born in Brooklyn, just turned 16. His debut album, entitled Oxyconteen, out now for free on Merok Records, has a slew of references to drugs, sex, suicide, and murder. Haleek is managed by Milo Cordell, owner of Merok Records, who has put out albums by the likes of Active Child,  Rainbow Arabia and Salem –  Cordell is also a member of the band The Big Pink. Haleek is already getting a lot of love from listeners and non-listeners of rap, because the album seems to be an amalgamation of a lot of different genres.  Oxyconteen, rife with the aforemention subjects, has the perfect amount of teenage angst, but there is something about Haleek that is more dimensional and creative that makes his debut album deserve a closer listen.
