The Art Of Elysium 13th Annual Heaven Gala At The Hollywood Palladium

The Art of Elysium’s annual HEAVEN is an artistic installation curated by some of the world’s leading and most renowned luminaries. Each year, The Art of Elysium celebrates a chosen visionary who creates their idea of “Heaven on Earth” as it relates to the charities four main disciplines: fashion & design, fine arts, music & movement, and theatre & film. The Art of Elysium was founded in 1997 to support artists working for the benefit of others. For over twenty years, they’ve paired volunteer artists with communities in Los Angeles to support individuals in the midst of difficult emotional life challenges like illness, hospitalization, displacement, confinement, and/or crisis. They also serve medically fragile children, teens, adults, seniors, those dealing with social, emotional and mental health issues, and the homeless. photographs by Oliver Maxwell Kupper

Museo Pecci di Prato in Florence, Italy presents an exhibition entiled LIVE! Art Meets Rock. The exhibition, curated by Luca Beatrice and Marco Bazzini, adopts a suggestive perspective to show how the history of contemporary art and of rock music have followed parallel paths to contribute to the construction of the cultural universe of the last forty years. Music and the visual arts have crossed and overlapped, over time, engendering a unified and consistent landscape; what draws them together is the performative dimension, articulated according to the specific occasion within an exhibition or a concert. LIVE!offers a parallel and original reading of historic events by exhibiting paintings, sculptures, installations, video clips, artworks, LPs, graphic works, photographs, magazines and films. Artists include Andy Warhol, Yoko Ono, William English, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Cindy Sherman, David LaChapelle and more. The exhibition will be accompanied by Live!, a book published by Rizzoli with contributions by Luca Beatrice and Marco Bazzini. LIVE! Art Meets Rock view at the Museo Pecci di Prato until September 16.

The Experience Music Project in Seattle is holding a massive exhibition celebrating the music and history of Nirvana, whose lead signer Kurt Cobain killed himself in 1994. Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses runs until April 22, 2013. www.empmuseum.org
