Watch Tei Shi's New Video "Even If It Hurts" Featuring Blood Orange

Today, lauded recording artist Tei Shi announces details of her highly anticipated sophomore album La Linda, to be released on November 15th on Downtown Records

Tei Shi says, “I made this song with two of my closest collaborators - Dev Hynes (Blood Orange) and Noah Breakfast. It came together in pieces between LA and New York but sprouted from the lyrics Dev and I kept on singing - 'even if it hurts...I just don't mind'. The concept is really the realization and acceptance that pain is a natural consequence of love. It's a duet about the ways in which we make ourselves vulnerable to those we love, sometimes at a high cost. The video was directed by Cara Stricker and with an incredible and almost exclusively female creative crew. It features a multitude of amazing designers like Collina Strada, Vaquera, Christopher John Rogers, Mugler, Maryam Nassir Zadeh . I wanted to capture the romantic and melancholic elements of the song but put them in a world that feels removed from the every day, its own little odd paradise where Dev and I existed parallel to one another but never really together.”

Devonté Hynes and Ryan McNamara “Dimensions” Performance at the Pérez Art Museum Miami

Last week, during Art Basel Miami, Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) commissioned a collaborative performance between musician Devonté Hynes (Blood Orange) and artist Ryan McNamara. The performance on PAMM’s terrace included an original multi-part composition by Hynes, an internationally-acclaimed musician and producer, and sculptural elements and choreography by McNamara, a celebrated performance artist. Presented within the global context of Miami Art Week, the performance was an allegory of Miami’s history as a place of fantasy and fragmentation. photographs by Scout MacEachron

Dev Hynes is an international man of mystery as well as the busiest musician on the planet. As if his extensive work as Lightspeed Champion and with Test Icicles or co-writing with Theophilus London and Solange Knowles or a note-for-note cover of Todd Rundgren's A Wizard, A True Star album weren't enough, Hynes is launching a new project: Blood Orange. To begin, Blood Orange is releasing a brand new 7" single, "Dinner" b/w "Bad Girls" on April 26th. Both tracks were recorded with and co-produced by Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear for release on his Terrible Records label. Blood Orange finds Hynes delving deeper into the fringes of '80s American musical culture, crossing elements of melancholy synthetic pop balladry with a twangy noir, composing songs exploring the harsh realities of romantic pursuits: longing, suspicion, jealousy, self-doubt and loneliness, to name but a few. This release will be followed by a full-length album which was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Ariel Reichstaid (Cass McCombs/Glasser) and will be released in the late summer on Domino.
