Haleek Maul Releases Debut EP Oxyconteen

Haleek Maul, who is from the island of Barbados, but was born in Brooklyn, just turned 16. His debut album, entitled Oxyconteen, out now for free on Merok Records, has a slew of references to drugs, sex, suicide, and murder. Haleek is managed by Milo Cordell, owner of Merok Records, who has put out albums by the likes of Active Child,  Rainbow Arabia and Salem –  Cordell is also a member of the band The Big Pink. Haleek is already getting a lot of love from listeners and non-listeners of rap, because the album seems to be an amalgamation of a lot of different genres.  Oxyconteen, rife with the aforemention subjects, has the perfect amount of teenage angst, but there is something about Haleek that is more dimensional and creative that makes his debut album deserve a closer listen. Ryan McGinley: Whistle for the Wind

In 2000, Ryan McGinley, then a student, staged his first exhibition of photographs in an abandoned SoHo gallery. To coincide with the show, the artist created several handmade books featuring a sampling of his work entitled The Kids Are Alright. A copy eventually found its way into the hands of Sylvia Wolf, then a curator of photography at the Whitney Museum of American Art. In 2003, Wolf mounted an exhibition of his work at the venerable institution, the youngest artist to ever have a solo show at the museum. What Wolf recognized—and what other critics, curators, and collectors would quickly discover—was an artist who understood and chronicled his own generation (habituées of New York City’s downtown) as no artist had before him. McGinley had managed to capture the hedonistic adventures of youth culture—kids hanging out and enjoying life—but without the dark underbelly of earlier artists who mined similar themes. Ryan McGinley 's first major monograph of his photography, entitled Whistle for the Wind [Rizzoli], which is hardcover and includes a consideration by Gus Van Sant, will be officially released tomorrow June 26, but is available to preorder now.

Le Chat Cambrioleur (The Cat Burglar)

To introduce their newest collection, entitled  The Auteur Collection, Warby Parker releases a video entitled Le Chat Cambrioleur or The Cat Burgurlar, which "channels the ebullience and aesthetic of French New Wave Cinema." Warby Parker says the new collection "draws inspiration from the rakes and femmes fatales of our favorite 1960s films– as well as from Jean-Luc Godard himself – to pay tribute to one of the great eras in film history." Shop the full collection here.

Love Is A State of Mind by Luci Schroder

Alongside the 2012 SHOWstudio Shop exhibition 'Selling Sex', SHOWstudio launches 'Fashion Fetish,' a series of fashion films, performances, multi-media pieces and accompanying essays by women in fashion - including Ruth Hogben, Daphne Guinness, Liberty Ross, Aimee Mullins, Asia Argento and Dasha Zhukova - that comment on the contentious and provocative fusion of fashion with fetish. SHOWstudio's newest installment is a film by Luci Schroder called Love Is A State of Mind.

[FIRST LOOK] Juveniles - Through The Night Music Video

Today, Juveniles, the young synth-pop trio from Rennes, France release their video, directed by Edward Housden, for the track Through the Night off their current EP. The film features a the classic gym team practicing in a nondescript basement studio with their tyrannical, overbearing coach.

Jeff Koons The Painter

A double exhibition of works by artist Jeff Koons will be on view this Summer in Germany, one that focuses on his oeuvra of painting and one of his sculptures. The exhibitions will be on view at the Schirn, which will present Jeff Koons: The Painter and Liebieghaus, which will present Jeff Koons: The Sculptor, in Frankfurt runs until Sept. 23

Felix Gonzalez-Torres: Double

On view startin today at Plateau, Samsung Museum of Art in Seoul, Korea, a solo exhibition of Felix Gonzalez-Torres, entitled Double. This exhibition examines the broad spectrum of Gonzalez-Torres’s oeuvre with particular emphasis on the malleable nature of his works, demonstrating how their meaning, as much as the form, can shift as the architectural, social, and curatorial landscapes change. The exhibition will also be on view at the sister museum Leeum, as well as multiple locations throughout the city of Seoul, and will also be on view prior to and following the opening of the Gwangju Biennale on September 7th. Felix Gonzalez-Torres, who died at the early age of 38 in 1996, is considered one of the most influential artists of his generation. Using everyday objects such as mirrors, clocks, puzzles, candies and paper stacks, Gonzalez-Torres’s oeuvre more profoundly examined the “public” function of art, while presenting strictly private contemplations on love and the fragility of life. Dom Pérignon by David Lynch

Last night at a fête in Los Angeles Dom Pérignon unveiled its newest collaboration with cult auteur David Lynch. Dom Pérignon presents the "Dom Pérignon by David Lynch" limited edition. After photographing the bottles of Dom Pérignon and Dom Pérignon Rosé, David Lynch has reinvented them. The "Dom Pérignon by David Lynch" limited edition takes the form of two gift boxes: one for Dom Pérignon Vintage 2003, the other for Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 2000. They will be available at the end of the year.

David Benjamin Sherry Book Launch In Los Angeles

In Quantum Light, artist David Benjamin Sherry’s second publication, he continues his exploration of vivid color, ramping up the saturation and expanding his subject matter, in works incorporating landscapes, collage, still life, abstraction, portraiture and sculpture. A conversation between Sherry and Collier Schorr serves as preface to this beautifully produced clothbound volume, which is published to coincide with the artist’s first New York solo show at Salon 94. Sherry will be signing his new book this Thursday, June 21, at Ooga Booga bookstore in Los Angeles.
