Daniel Arsham "3018" Solo Show Opens @ Perrotin In New York

3018 is an exhibition of new work by Daniel Arsham. This is his fifteenth exhibition with Perrotin since joining the gallery in 2005. Though the exhibition contains pieces never before seen in New York, visitors will recognize strains of previous works by Arsham, as signature forms and strategies recur, unifying Arsham’s involvement in different disciplines—sculpture, architecture, film, performance—into a total oeuvre. 3018 continues Arsham’s dystopian vision of the future, one in which culture as we know it today is eroded, and the objects of modern life have fallen into aestheticized obsolescence. 3018 opens this Saturday 8 and is on view through October 21 at Perrotin 130 Orchard Street New York

Daniel Arsham's New Exhibition "Character Study" @ Morán Morán

"Character Study" presents new work that explores the artist’s relationship to color and light, as well as his interest in cycles and patterns as they relate to time, matter, and pop-culture. In the first part of the exhibition, iconic cartoon characters cast from vintage patches, enlarged to a fantastical scale, appear familiar and playful as they hang throughout the gallery. Some of these appropriated pop-images, such as Bart Simpson, Bugs Bunny, and Felix the Cat, are from of the artist’s own childhood collection of patches that covered the Jansport backpack he owned during his school years in the 90s. "Character Study" is on view through June 9 at Morán Morán 937 N. Part two of artist Daniel Arsham's film Future Relic 02. See Arsham's upcoming exhibit, entitled Welcome to the Future, on view during Art Basel Miami at Locust Projects. For the installation, Arsham transforms the gallery into an excavation site, digging trench in the gallery’s floor that holds thousands of calcified artifacts—a muted cacophony of 20th century media devices. Mounds of boom boxes, electric guitars, SLR cameras, Blackberries, game controllers, VHS tapes, Walkmans, film projectors, and portable televisions, rendered in crystal, volcanic ash, and other minerals fill the pit, collapsing linear narratives of past, present, and future.

OHWOW is presents the fifth and final edition of the annual group exhibition It Ain’t Fair (IAF). Coinciding with Art Basel Miami Beach, It Ain’t Fair 2012 celebrates the history and tradition of IAF‘s renowned multimedia production, and closes the chapter on what came to define OHWOW’s identity as a community platform for progressive art in all media. The final IAF moves from the Design District to a 6,000 square foot location on the beach to accommodate a large-scale exhibition and various projects, delivering a climactic conclusion to this definitive enterprise. It Ain‘t Fair 2012 assembles a selection of over 30 contemporary artists, many who contributed in past years, along with several new names, from David Adamo, James Franco, Dan Colen, Terry Richardson, Aurel Schmidt, and others.
