Portrait Of Britain Announces Winners Of Its Fourth Edition National Exhibition In Partnership With JCDecaux

Portrait of Britain, is the largest exhibition of contemporary portrait photography ever held, as much a celebration of photography as it is a celebration of the diversity of our country’s people. Now in its fourth year, British Journal of Photography will launch the nationwide exhibition on 2 September across JCDecaux UK’s national channel of digital screens. Following an open call by British Journal of Photography earlier this year, thousands of portraits were submitted, and judges had the task of selecting the 200 shortlisted images from that number. All 200 images will be printed in the Portrait of Britain Book Vol.2, published by Hoxton Mini Press, and released on 5 September.

The 100 winning entries will be showcased across JCDecaux’s network of digital Out-of-Home screens throughout the country, from rail stations and airports, to shopping malls and high streets, throughout the month of September.

Six Poets From New River Press Reading and Book Launch @ Shakespeare And Company in Paris

Iconic Paris bookstore Shakespeare and Company welcomed six poets from New River Press, one of the UK’s edgiest and most exciting poetry imprints, for a reading and gathering. Jon Rafman's Insane Ultra-Futuristic Major Solo Exhibition At the Zabludowicz Collection in London

For his first major solo exhibition in the UK, Canadian artist Jon Rafman has transformed the spaces of the Zabludowicz Collection into a playful series of new installations that immerse visitors within his video and sculptural works. Emerging from his interest in the relationship between technology and human consciousness, Rafman’s works examine ideas of desire – its simulation and enactment. She Lay Down Deep Beneath the Sea

Tracey Emin's first major solo exhibition at Turner Contemporary, entitled She Lay Down Deep Beneath the Sea, is conceived specially for Margate, where Emin grew up and which has provided inspiration for many of her most famous art works. The exhibition explores the themes of love, sensuality and romanticism in Emin's oeuvre, featuring both new and existing works including drawings, monoprints, sculptures and neons. The exhibition's central themes continue in a display of paintings, sketches and watercolours of erotic subjects by Tracey Emin as well as JMW Turner and Auguste Rodin, whose iconic sculpture The Kiss is on show at Turner Contemporary until 2 September 2012. Tracey Emin: She Lay Down Deep Beneath the Sea will be on view from May 26 to September 23 at the Turner Contemporary

Italian Style on the Silver Screen

A major collection of rare images depicting the influence of Italian style in film will be unveiled at an exhibition at Proud Chelsea,  which launched last Tuesday with a private viewing. The exhibition has been curated by celebrated top photographer Rankin and Italian fashion writer, film expert and cultural commentator Anna Battista in conjunction with Peroni Nastro Azzurro. The exhibition officially opened yesterday at Proud Chelsea and from there will tour another four UK cities , until Saturday 2nd April where it finishes in Bristol. The Peroni Collection – Italian Style on the Silver Screen explores the relationship between Italian fashion design and its enduring influence on film making, image making and characterisation. The exhibition will feature rare and never seen before images and costumes from the cinematic world. The Peroni Collection references not only classic Italian films like Ladri di Biciclette and Bellissima, but also more contemporary titles (including American Psycho and Casino Royale). The images, taken from classic Italian film and fashion archives from around the world, showcase the beauty of Italian fashion on celluloid. www.proud.co.uk
