Local California band Allah Las announces their latest album LAHS out October 11 on Mexican Summer and their new video for first single " In The Air ," a tongue in cheek half baked version of Weekend at Bernie's .

“A ship in harbor is safe, but that’s not what ships are built for” the saying goes. But suppose the proverbial harbor is Los Angeles — a place not particularly known for being the origin of adventures. From the Spanish Conquistadors to the countless starry-eyed nobodies hoping to make it big, LA is usually the destination.

So it’s no wonder the Allah Las became fascinated with both the carefree spirit and glitter-in-the-gutter lifestyle of their hometown. After three records mining its lore and lure (from the desert to the sea) they have become global ambassadors of not just a place but a location.

Having taken their compact California on the road across the world (making stops in North, Central, and South America, Europe, South Africa, Australia, Russia, East Asia and beyond), they couldn’t help but peek through the other end of the telescope.

On their fourth LP, drummer Matt Correia , bassist Spencer Dunham , and guitarists Miles Michaud and Pedrum Siadatian turn their collective gaze outward and toward the horizon. Simply titled LAHS (a reference to a common misspelling of the band’s name), their forthcoming release on Mexican Summer finds the band turning in their most cohesive and ambitious work yet. Franco-American Duo FAUX REAL Releases New Music Video For "Second Sweat"

Faux real is the deranged child of Franco-American brothers Elliott and Virgile Arndt. In the summer of 2018, they invoked the union of their inner-gene genies and gave birth to faux realism. The brothers started playing their first shows as a duo with nothing but a couple of microphones, a flute, some handmade costumes and a weird/incestuous/compelling 30-minute long choreography. With no music online or a single confirmed show on the horizon, they took off on a month-long US tour in march 2019, with high hopes and low expectations.

They ended up performing over 30 times that month from SXSW in Austin, to Los Angeles and New York City, performing anywhere and everywhere the city would allow, from large venues to sweaty nightclubs to street corners, house parties, art galleries, illegal raves, or hijacking existing bills with impromptu slots. The two brothers are quickly becoming notorious for their wild, unhinged, retro-futuristic and avant-garde anti-rock performances, ranging from flute-infused 808 ballads to feverish stooge-esque self-flagellation, tongue-in-cheek frenglish poetry, faux athletics and improvised quasi-ballet.

Avant-garde fashion designer and artist Valerj Pobega presented her “Kabuki in Berlin” -Fall/Winter 2019 collection with a site-specific performance in collaboration with dancers, acrobats and a music performance by Lawrence Rothman. Dressed in the designer’s hand-painted silk creations from “Kabuki in Berlin” her collection was inspired by the hybrid identities and androgynous stylings as seen in the Liza Minnelli’s turn as Sally Bowles in Cabaret, and the epicene performances of Lindsey Kemp and David Bowie in their 1970 mimed numbers which had hints of Kabuki theatre. photographs by Mekael Dawson

Following the celebrated On Behalf of Nature, which offered a liminal space questioning the precarious state of our global ecology, Cellular Songs turns attention inward to the very fabric of life itself. Watch Spellling's Music Video “Under the Sun” On The Occasion Of Her Album Release

SPELLLING, the project of Bay-area based Chrystia Cabral, shares a new video for “Under the Sun,” a track off of her forthcoming album, Mazy Fly, due today via Sacred Bones. The video, shot entirely on 8mm camera, is a collaboration between Cabral and emerging filmmaker Catalina Xavlena. A 7-minute surreal dreamscape odyssey into the depths of “Under the Sun,” the video features Cabral herself, surrounded by vivid hues, stunning movement, and cryptic storytelling. This visual boldly pays homage to 70s avant-garde film and 80s iconic music videos. “‘Under the Sun’ is a cosmic prayer for good fortune,” says Cabral. “This epic track celebrates the invisible energies that come together over time to create something radically new, like the birth of a star.”

Die hard Kelsey Lu fans may fret at the idea that she might be abandoning the cello, but we’re not worried at all. You can hear in the layers of her vocals the oscillating rhythm of an instrument that has completely possessed the artist and endowed her with an air of continual, breathy expansion. Kelsey Lu’s “I’m Not In Love” is a haunting and luscious update to the original track by 10cc. One that abandons the bright 70s synth that made this track a power ballad for slow dancing at the disco, and pares it down to needle-point potency of a raw heartbeat and atmospheric synth more befitting to the times, and arguably the song itself.

Says Lu, “This is dedicated to the ones who have ever felt misunderstood in the name of Love, in the name of Self. Who Love the Passion, Love the Grace Of Dramatics, Love the obsession of life and want to Kill the Confusion all while finding beauty in the abstract of growth and humor that surrounds the horrors both within and around us daily.” We say, “Thank you!”
