Autre’s rainbow magic Summer 2018 Issue features a 23-page interview of the legendary Los Angeles-based Norwegian-born photographer Torbjørn Rødland who has three major solo exhibitions this summer. One in Los Angeles at David Kordansky gallery, one at Bergen Kunsthall in Norway and one at Fondazione Prada in Milan. The feature includes a double interview with Autre’s editor-in-chief Oliver Maxwell Kupper and one with Serpentine Gallery’s director Hans-Ulrich Obrist. This issue also includes over 40 pages of fashion editorials with LVMH prize finalist Eckhaus Latta and Maryam Nassir Zadeh. Autre also interviews actor Matthew Modine with rare photographs from the set of Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket, feminist surrealist Penny Slinger, Lisa Immordino Vreeland on the legacy of photographer Cecil Beaton with gorgeous self portraits, Duncan Hannah on living the high life in New York City, Marilyn Minter on her new show at Regen Projects, legendary German New Wave director Wim Wenders, and Herb Alpert. The third iteration of the Hammer’s biennial exhibition continues to highlight the practices of artists working throughout Los Angeles and the surrounding areas. As part of an ongoing series, Made in L.A. 2016 "a, the, though, only" addresses Los Angeles as a center of activity inseparable from the global network of art production and reveals how artists move fluidly between contexts and respond to their local conditions. Subtitled by the minimalist poet and writer Aram Saroyan as his contribution to the exhibition, Made in L.A. 2016 "a, the, though, only" extends into such disciplines as dance, fashion, literature, music, film, and performance. Rather than a unifying regional aesthetic, sensibility, or identity historically associated with Los Angeles, Made in L.A. 2016 focuses on artists from different disciplinary backgrounds, allowing individual projects and bodies of work to shape the overall exhibition. It features condensed monographic surveys, comprehensive displays of multiyear projects, the premiere of new bodies of work, and newly commissioned works from emerging artists. Made in L.A. 2016 "a, the, though, only" will be on view from June 12 to August 28, 2016 at Hammer Museum, 10899 Wilshire Boulevard

Eckhaus Latta's New Fashion Film "Roach" Perfectly Captures the Lonliness of A Post-Internet World

Ever wonder what life was like through the hole of a pierced septum? Directed by Alexa Karolinski, Eckhaus Latta's fall/winter 15 collection film is a pastiche of diary-esque snapshots of the human condition in an era where binge watching television is a reality and reality itself is a virtual mirage set against the backdrop of green screens in a darkened room. Eckhaus Latta has a distinct history for pushing the boundaries when it comes to projecting their sartorially visions - each one of their fashion films finds a way to capture the essence of the collection in a distinct thematic way. For "Roach," the label has tasked Dev Hynes to create the soundtrack and Nora Slade to read a poem penned by the designers for a romantic ambiance that has us yearning for shelter as the impending winter gets closer and closer.
