Before opening its flagship museum space, slated for the second half of 2023, Fotografiska Berlin is focusing on an inclusive pre-opening program, the goal of which is to cross-connect the city’s various creative industries. Cultural Fabric is a 3-day exhibition of photography hosted by that is dedicated to a rereading of the relationship between art and fashion practices.

Seven artists, both Berlin-based and international, will explore the main theme in a group exhibition, showcasing their work at Atelier Gardens. The multidisciplinary show is curated by Marina Paulenka (Director of Exhibitions at Fotografiska Berlin and former Artistic Director of Organ Vida and Unseen) and Thomas Schäfer (Exhibition Manager at Fotografiska Berlin). With their practices operating at the intersection of fashion and photography, the following artists will be presented: Julie Poly, Carlota Guerrero, and Mous Lamrabat, with more to be announced soon.

Evita Manji is an Athens-based artist and vocalist who implements their carefully constructed practice of sound design into live shows and productions. In addition to founding the independent music label, myxoxym, they have collaborated with numerous artists across various media. Their most recent release is a compilation of international artists with all proceeds going to ANIMA, a non-profit association active in the field of ecology, with its main activity being the nursing and rehabilitation of wild animals in their natural environment. One of their recent singles, OIL/TOO MUCH addresses the toxic effects of crude oil extraction on the planet and its inhabitants as well as the exploitation of its laborers. A process akin to drowning and being burned alive simultaneously. Read more.

Katharina Grosse Exhibition @ Gagosian Gallery in New York

Gagosian present new paintings and sculpture by Katharina Grosse. A prominent figure on the international art circuit, this is her first gallery exhibition in New York and at Gagosian, following a series of significant public commissions in the U.S. in recent years. Grosse approaches painting as an experience in immersive subjectivity. With a spray gun, she disconnects the artistic act from the hand, stylizing gesture as a propulsive mark. The resulting pictures are distinct, but never predetermined. Spatial tensions rise through shifts in chromatic temperature. Challenging boundaries, she reintroduces her body as an active agent within a vision of contemporary existence that is at once physically isolated and densely networked. Daniel Arsham "Circa 2345" @ Galerie Perrotin in New York

Galerie Perrotin presents Daniel Arsham’s first solo show with the gallery in New York. The exhibition will feature sculptural pieces, breakthrough use of color as well as a large scale installation. Daniel Arsham’s sculptural works are poetic constructions made up of juxtapositions of form and material: a 16mm film projector rendered in ash and hydrostone, or a 20th century iconic guitar, formed out of white glacial rock dust, its crumbling areas integral to its haunting beauty. Transforming compressed elemental materials such as stone, crystal and ash into carefully chosen important cultural artifacts, Arsham offers a brief glimpse into our current culture and its signifiers, as if seen far off into the future. Daniel Arsham "Circa 2345" will be on view until October 22, 2016 at Galerie Perrotin in New York. photographs by Adam Lehrer
